On April 20 the member of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Shirak Torosyan met with the Chairman of the NGO Media-Shangal Yezidi National Union Amo Sharoyan, the deputy of the RF Kamchatka region Rashid Shamoyan, the MP of Kurdistan Autonomous Republic Shekh Shamo Shekho, the Chairperson of the Aid Fund of the Yezidis of the Whole World Lucia Usoyan and the Governor of Shangal Maysar Khaji Salikh.

The guests noted that they came to Armenia to take part in the events of the Armenian Genocide Centennial and to pay their tribute to the memory of the Armenian people’s innocent victims. They also stated that if before the Armenian genocide was recognized and condemned, perhaps, today the Yezidis’ genocide would not happen.

Welcoming the guests in Armenia Shirak Torosyan expressed his gratitude to the Iraqi Yezidis for being next to the Armenian people during these days and taking part in the events of the Armenian genocide Centennial. The deputy thanked them for the opening of the monument dedicated to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims by the Yezidis. According to Shirak Torosyan, the Armenians and the Yezidis have been friends through centuries, have passed through the same hardships and have had the same problems. “At the most difficult moments of the Armenian people and the Armenian state the Yezidis were next to us, took part in the Artsakh freedom fighting,” the NA deputy said. The speaker has gladly documented the fact that for a part of the Yezidi people Armenia has been a motherland, and today it continues to be. It has been noted that today, more than 30.000 Yezidis live in Armenia, who with their behaviour, enjoy the Armenians’ love and respect.

According to Shirak Torosyan, the Armenian people are aware of and share the Yezidi people’s pain connected with the severe and barbarous attitude towards the Yezidi people of Iraq by the terrorist groups. In this context, the deputy has assured that Armenia is next to the Yezidi people and as a nation undergone through genocide, is ready to do utmost to prevent genocide within the limits of its possibilities.

The guests have opined that the monument opened in Yerevan once again witness to the two peoples’ friendship. Let us note the guests have been to the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex.
